Where to stay in Siem Reap
In July 2022 I arrived in Siem Reap, Cambodia—the gateway to the extraordinary Angkor temples, and what has now become my home. In the beginning, before settling here permanently, I came back several times while exploring the country and other parts of Southeast Asia.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Every single time, I stayed in budget guesthouses or hotels that cost no more than 25 USD per night. It was only thanks to this blog that I had the opportunity to experience firsthand the difference staying in a luxury boutique hotel can make.
And here in Siem Reap, that difference matters more than you might think. The city has a unique energy, and you experience it differently when you’re guided by people — and hotels — that truly know and love Cambodia.
In this article, I’ll tell you about four of the best luxury boutique hotels in the city:
- Jaya House River Park;
- Maison Polanka;
- Shinta Mani Angkor;
- Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat.
You may have seen me mention these hotels before. Each month, it’s an honor to write about them and share a way of experiencing Siem Reap where luxury meets a more immersive and responsible travel approach.
All of these luxury boutique hotels offer guests highly immersive stays, with rooms and spaces designed for exceptional comfort. The common areas are spacious and full of thoughtful details that help you feel connected to your surroundings while also supporting local artisans and communities.
All of these hotels have exclusively Cambodian staff, contributing to providing dignified jobs for local people and encouraging spontaneous, respectful encounters between guests and staff members.
You will find luxury in every corner of your room and throughout the property. You’ll be enchanted by the surrounding nature—lush and an essential part of the experience in all these luxury boutique hotels—while also supporting local NGOs and communities through hotel programs, and discovering real Cambodia thanks to exclusive guest experiences, from cooking classes to guided tours.
Why other travelers’ experiences matter
When I book a hotel, I always read plenty of online reviews to make sure it’s the right fit.
In this article, I’m sharing my personal experience with these luxury boutique hotels. Through this blog and Facebook, I’ve also built a small, close-knit community—made mostly of Italian travelers, but also other expats in Siem Reap—based on trust.
I put a lot of effort into creating useful content that is honest and, even when I collaborate with different businesses, my opinion is always sincere. This is what my readers here on the blog and on social media trust me for.
I do not take this lightly, and it is with honesty and a sense of responsibility that today I am going to tell you in detail about my stays in each of the luxury boutique hotels featured in this article.
Let me tell you right away: they were all wonderful experiences. But every luxury boutique hotel is different from the others. Each of these places has its own distinctive characteristics, and that allows travelers like you to choose the one that resonates with you the most.
Understanding which of these beautiful properties is truly right for you—and getting all the practical information—is not always easy.
Don’t worry. That’s exactly why I’m here.
Make yourself comfortable, and get ready to experience an immersive journey through the incredible spaces and unique experiences of Jaya House River Park, Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat, Shinta Mani Angkor, and Maison Polanka.
Jaya House River Park: Where Luxury Meets Purpose
Even before staying for two full nights at Jaya House River Park in December 2025, I was already deeply enchanted—and also genuinely curious—about this luxury boutique hotel located along the riverside in Siem Reap, about ten minutes by tuk tuk or car from the Angkor archaeological complex. This is especially true because of the ‘small jungle’ area right in front of the entrance, which immediately catches your eye every time you pass by.
One of the key community-focused initiatives of Jaya House River Park is precisely the planting of trees along the river and in various public and community spaces throughout the city. Only ten years ago, this entire riverside area was almost bare, while today a simple walk along it offers a breath of clean air, a sense of openness, and an immersion into nature that feels almost restorative in a physical and emotional way.
As I mentioned, even before entering Jaya House River Park, you are already surrounded by trees along the pavement directly in front of the hotel, and this green presence begins before you even cross the entrance. Moreover, during my many walks along the riverside—long before I ever experienced the luxury and atmosphere of this beautiful luxury boutique hotel in person—I had already been struck repeatedly by the warmth, the manners, and the genuine kindness of the staff members standing outside the property. I always ended up exchanging short but very pleasant conversations with them, even though at that time I had not yet stayed at Jaya House River Park.
When the opportunity finally came for me to stay for two nights at Jaya House River Park, it coincided exactly with my birthday. And what a gift that turned out to be.
From the very moment you step inside Jaya House River Park, it feels as though the chaos, noise, and concerns of the outside world simply dissolve into nothing. It’s as if they no longer exist the moment you cross the threshold. The welcome is immediate and impeccable, the atmosphere of the spaces is infused with elegance and quietness, and nature isn’t just present — it surrounds you at every turn.
Christian, the manager, is profoundly in love with Cambodia and its extraordinary people. This is something that becomes immediately perceptible within the property. Jaya House River Park feels like a true love letter to the country itself.
The different types of rooms are real sanctuaries—oases of peace, luxury, and meticulous attention to detail— where you can fully recharge between excursions and also spend meaningful time with the people you’re travelling with.
Jaya House River Park is not simply a hotel stay. It’s an experience in itself. Every single moment of the day, whether you are exploring Siem Reap or remaining entirely within the property, contributes to building a deeper, more authentic connection with Cambodia.
The two swimming pools create further opportunities for relaxation, always surrounded by nature. Personally, I also appreciate that Jaya House River Park does not accept guests with small children, as I have experienced other luxury hotels (not the ones I am writing about in this article) where the pool atmosphere was completely disrupted by loud, chaotic groups of children.
Nature here is not simply decorative —it’s an essential part of the experience. Many travelers arrive in Siem Reap from Western cities with little connection to nature, and staying at Jaya House River Park means both experiencing it and contributing to its protection
The hotel supports this through its tree-planting program and is also a #SingleUsePlastic property, a core part of its philosophy. Many guests especially appreciate the strong focus on reducing plastic and respecting the environment, while others—who may not have thought about it before—become more aware of these practices during their stay and often carry these habits home with them.
As if that wasn’t enough already, Jaya House River Park also donates the equivalent of 5 USD per occupied night, which is then divided between three NGOs it supports: Green Gecko Center for Street Children, The Cambodian Landmine Relief Fund, and The Small Art School Siem Reap.
In addition, it runs the Nutritional Book Drive, through which guests can purchase two educational books even before arriving in Cambodia. These books help children and young people in disadvantaged situations learn how to eat healthily and take care of their physical and mental wellbeing.
One of the strongest aspects of staying at Jaya House River Park is that you do not need to do anything extraordinary in order to leave a positive mark on the world because simply by choosing this hotel you are already contributing to something meaningful and tangible. Your stay in Cambodia is no longer that of a tourist, but of a more conscious and responsible traveler.
Returning to my personal experience, in the evening I enjoyed a drink at the rooftop bar, with a view over the surrounding city area. The dishes are of excellent quality and are served with professionalism in the elegant restaurant. In the morning, a rich breakfast provides all the energy you need for the day ahead and becomes a moment of calm, presence and slowness, something increasingly rare in travel experiences today.
On that occasion, I had the opportunity to speak with a member of the staff serving breakfast. He approached me first and began telling me about his family and his daily life. These encounters – simple, genuine and often unexpected – are often the ones that stay with you the most.
Finally, as I mentioned earlier, I was staying at Jaya House River Park for my birthday, and that evening, while I was in my room, I heard a knock on the door. When I opened it, I found several members of staff standing there with a small cake, singing “Happy Birthday” to me.
It was a beautiful and unforgettable moment.
Jaya House River Park also offers a selection of curated tours to discover Angkor and other points of interested. Since I live here, I didn’t take part in them and instead spent two days fully enjoying the hotel. These experiences are exceptional in quality and depth, far beyond standard online tours.
To wrap it up, my stay at Jaya House River Park was defined by calm, inner awareness, attention to detail, professionalism, excellent food, understated luxury, and, above all, the feeling of truly making a difference simply by being there. Perhaps this is the most important element of all, because Jaya House River Park does not merely speak about values—it fully embodies them in practice.
And actions, ultimately, always speak louder than words.
I recommend it to: conscious and responsible travelers who want to make a real ethical impact on local communities. I particularly appreciate the inclusions in the rate, such as complimentary tuk-tuks for moving around the city, as well as minibar and laundry services.
I also recommend this luxury boutique hotel to wheelchair users. Jaya House River Park provides a specially adapted tuk-tuk for guests with disabilities, one of the very few hotels in the city—if not the only one—to offer this service.
Maison Polanka – A Journey into History and Spirituality
Maison Polanka – A Journey into History and Spirituality
Maison Polanka feels like a book that tells a story very few people know. Every moment spent in this intimate yet extraordinary property, just a short walk from the riverside, feels like turning a page that carries you back in time to a Cambodia that no longer exists, or exists only in fragments of memory and silence.
The owners are Nathalie and Jean Pierre, and Maison Polanka is their home. This alone changes everything. For guests, it does not feel like a conventional hotel experience but rather like being welcomed into a private world, warm and intimate, with a deeply personal atmosphere that is difficult to find elsewhere.
Nathalie was born in Phnom Penh to a French mother and a Cambodian father, and her family history is reflected in the dishes served at the beautiful Maison Polanka restaurant, overlooking the swimming pool and surrounded by nature. The recipes of Nathalie’s aunts have survived through time and arrive today as part of a culinary and sensory journey that accompanies every meal, creating an experience that goes far beyond simple dining.
Jean Pierre, on the other hand, is a source of inspiration for anyone who comes to Maison Polanka seeking something deeper, something inward. He radically changed his life at the age of forty, becoming a monk and dedicating himself to helping people in need. His presence is not loud, but it is profoundly felt in the philosophy of the place.
When Jean Pierre arrived in Siem Reap in 1992, the city was very different from what it is today. The country itself was still marked by a fragile peace that felt more like a distant hope than something stable or guaranteed. In that context, Jean Pierre became a pioneer, opening a vocational training school in craftsmanship and construction.
In 2000, the Chantiers Écoles initiative —originally created to train young former soldiers who had never had the opportunity to attend school, particularly in construction and artisanal crafts—evolved into what is now known as Artisans d’Angkor, a place I have visited many times since living in Siem Reap and which I consistently recommend to travelers who want to understand the living heritage of Cambodian craftsmanship.
When I arrived at Maison Polanka in April 2026, I was immediately welcomed by the staff, all Cambodian. The welcome is personalized yet discreet, professional without ever becoming intrusive. Maison Polanka consists of traditional Khmer-style villas that become a key part of your journey in Cambodia, enriching it with detail, atmosphere, and a strong sense of connection to the local culture.
Each villa includes refined details, books with black-and-white photographs of Cambodia from past decades, and carefully considered comforts that create a sense of quiet luxury and exclusivity without excess or artificiality.
What struck me most is how Maison Polanka is not simply a place of peace and nature, but also a true sanctuary of history and spiritual exploration. A conversation with Nathalie or Jean Pierre becomes a journey through time, allowing you to experience Cambodia’s past with love, respect, and integrity. Through their stories—and through the black-and-white photographs that Nathalie carefully preserves in an album—you are able to retrace the history of the country in a way that feels deeply personal and entirely unique.
These testimonies add a human layer to History itself, making it accessible, emotional, and alive. They allow you to look at contemporary Cambodia with different eyes, accessing its cultural, historical, and artistic heritage in a way that goes far deeper than the average traveler experience.
Maison Polanka is also a place where you can (re)connect with yourself. If you are already on an inner journey, this is a place where everything gently connects the outside world with the inner one, helping you slow down, breathe more deeply, and reconnect with yourself.
If you haven’t yet begun any inner work, you may be surprised to find yourself gently dissolving into nature, sensing the spirit of Cambodia as an invisible presence that stays with you from morning to night.
Maison Polanka offers a selection of books on spirituality, life, and death. I read one while lying on a sunbed by the pool and it added a quiet depth to the stay, making the property feel like a gentle companion that guides you with ease through a journey far beyond the famous landmarks of Siem Reap, into a fuller experience that leaves you changed by the time you check out.
I can only speak with admiration for every aspect of my stay there.
Nathalie has a quiet presence, grounded and deeply connected to the country, much like Maison Polanka itself. She radiates calm and rootedness, and it feels naturally in tune with the atmosphere of the property.
As someone who loves nature, I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the grounds, swimming in the beautiful pool surrounded by greenery, and spending time on the terrace of my Khmer-style villa. There was even a bed with a mosquito net on the terrace, perfect for those who wish to simply rest, linger, or sleep under the stars.
The food is excellent and a real pleasure for the palate, especially in the soft evening light when the moon reflects on the pool in front of the restaurant. Breakfast is a slow, calm way to start the day, with birdsong in the background and trees gently moving in the wind, without any rush or worries about the day ahead.
Everything at Maison Polanka is elegance and slowness. Exploring Siem Reap and its surroundings through the tours offered by the property—which I personally did not join because I live in the city—means integrating them seamlessly into the stay itself, creating a kind of journey that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
I genuinely believe that anyone who spends a few days at Maison Polanka will discover aspects of themselves they had forgotten or perhaps never even knew existed. This inner journey runs parallel to the outer one, making it richer, deeper, and more honest.
In my opinion, the true journey is the one that transforms you and teaches you something new about yourself or the world. Every moment can become a discovery, and every unexpected turn a chance to pause and ask yourself whether the path you are on is truly the right one for you.
Maison Polanka is not simply a place to stay while visiting Siem Reap. It’s a journey within a journey. Here, history and spirituality meet a slower rhythm shaped by nature and human presence, and every stay becomes a new story waiting to be written.
I recommend it to: anyone who loves slow, conscious travel or simply feels the need to slow down, reset, and reconnect. It will also appeal to those drawn to history and spirituality, and to discovering Cambodia through human stories and photographs from the past.
Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat - A Temple of Wellbeing
In April 2024, I stayed for two nights at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat. Two years have passed since then, and I have changed a great deal, yet my opinion of Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat remains exactly the same.
This beautiful luxury boutique hotel, located approximately ten minutes by tuk-tuk from the city center, is a true oasis of relaxation and wellbeing.
Managed by two Italian sisters, Giovanna and Maddalena, Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat brings Italian warmth into a refined, carefully curated setting. Welcoming hospitality and elegance define the atmosphere, along with spacious rooms, tropical nature, and a rich wellness program.
Many people don’t know this, but Siem Reap is actually a hidden gem for yoga, meditation, and other practices that help you slow down and reconnect with yourself. Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat stands at the forefront among the city’s properties that accompany their guests not only on an external journey—discovering wonders such as Angkor or other points of interest in and around Siem Reap—but also on an internal journey, where those already on a path of personal growth can continue exploring, and newcomers are gently introduced to it for the first time.
During my stay, I had the opportunity to take part in a group wellness event and to experience a Chakra Alignment & Aura Reading conducted by Angelo. It was such an intense and meaningful experience that I still consider it one of the most powerful I have ever had in my life.
Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat offers:
• daily yoga and meditation classes;
• holistic and healing therapies (such as reiki, sound baths, and acupuncture);
• wellness packages and retreats across different areas of wellbeing (including yoga & mindfulness, shamanism, and soul work).
If you are a yoga teacher or work in any other area of wellness, you can organize your retreat at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat.
Since wellbeing is also shaped by the environment we are immersed in, the setting of Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat allows guests to integrate everything they learn during sessions by taking advantage of the tropical gardens in which the resort is immersed, its three swimming pools, and a restaurant that also serves vegetarian and vegan dishes.
A stay at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat is an experience that elevates luxury to another level, because an extraordinary focus is placed on the inner world, which in our contemporary reality is often pushed into the background and neglected.
Here, you are guided by professionals, including guest practitioners invited by the resort for special events that enrich its wellness program. Among them, I mention Dr. Fabio, whom I had the pleasure and honor of meeting last month during an event organized by Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat and open to the wider community.
My conversation with Dr. Fabio was extremely helpful in connecting physical symptoms to deeper emotional states or inner imbalances. What Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat offers is, in fact, an introspective journey that takes you deep within yourself, helping you heal from trauma and from the signals the body expresses, which can sometimes appear as symptoms, discomfort, or illness.
All of this is further enriched by the various activities and tours offered by this wonderful luxury boutique hotel. In addition to exploring Angkor (and perhaps even meditating at Angkor Wat), you can admire life on Tonle Sap or explore Phnom Kulen, the sacred mountain of Cambodia.
Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat also stands out for its strong commitment to sustainability. From water refill stations placed throughout the resort to eco-friendly packaging for takeaway meals and products created on-site, simply by staying at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat, guests actively contribute to supporting the environment and the local community.
The resort employs exclusively Cambodian staff, making a tangible difference in the lives of people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Last but not least, Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat also offers a culinary journey of exceptional quality. The Italian evenings, which take place occasionally, are worth marking in advance, but in truth the beautiful restaurant—overlooking two of the swimming pools and allowing guests to dine surrounded by the sounds of nature— serves natural dishes designed to support overall wellbeing each day.
Many of us, in fact, follow diets that are not always ideal for our health, yet what we eat is not simply fuel to function throughout the day, but something that directly contributes to our physical wellbeing. At Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat, the act of eating becomes something conscious.
Each meal here is an invitation to spend meaningful time with loved ones around the table or to take a moment just for yourself. You might read one of the books available to guests or write in your journal about the inner shifts and reflections that arise during your stay at the resort.
The menu is a blend of Italian and Cambodian cuisine, with an entire section dedicated to wellness even at the table. The wellness menu includes vegetarian dishes, detox juices, nourishing soups, and much more.
Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat is a world apart. You wake up in one of its beautiful rooms or suites—you can choose among different types of accommodation, all carefully designed and exceptionally comfortable—and you slowly begin your day.
You walk barefoot through the resort gardens, which change as nature itself changes. You enjoy breakfast without hurry, or perhaps you meditate first. You relax in one of the three swimming pools, including the saltwater pool. You listen to the sounds of nature, leave your phone aside. You can read, write, rest, reflect or you can plan your next excursion in Siem Reap with the help of the resort staff, who are professional, friendly, and never intrusive.
Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat carries the energy of the nearby Angkor archaeological complex, which you sense throughout your stay. This energy naturally extends into your wellness experience. Whether you join a single class or a full retreat, Navutu Dreams supports you in finding clarity in the present and a clearer sense of direction for the future.
In today’s world, attention is often placed almost entirely on the material side of life, yet at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat you experience a journey that combines the comfort and elegance of spacious rooms, enriched with local details, with everything that genuinely supports your wellbeing. Health is not sustained by medicine alone. A headache or stomach ache is not always something to simply mask with a pill, without understanding its deeper cause.
What you experience at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat is a journey for old, sensitive, awakened souls—those that are able to look beyond the veil. These are souls who understand that the world is not only physical and that energy is present everywhere—in plants, in animals, and within ourselves.
A stay at Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat is for a soul that is returning home.
I recommend it to: anyone already working on themselves or ready to begin that journey. It is also for those seeking a stay immersed in nature and calm, with attention to every element that supports wellbeing, from food to environment.

Shinta Mani Angkor – Where Design and Luxury Blend with Giving Back
My stay at Shinta Mani Angkor, which took place in the spring of 2025, felt like stepping into a parallel universe made of luxury, meticulous attention to detail, exceptional service, and a very real sense of solidarity. I had the privilege of staying in one of the ten Pool Villas, which count their own swimming pool and dedicated butler service.
The entire property is an oasis of exclusivity, comfort, and design. Created by Bill Bensley – the landscape architect and interior designer behind more than 200 hospitality projects around the world – Shinta Mani Angkor offers its guests two beautiful swimming pools, a bar, two restaurants, a spa, and a variety of accommodation types, including the already mentioned extraordinary private pool villas.
What truly makes Shinta Mani Angkor unique, though, is the Shinta Mani Foundation. The foundation creates real opportunities for young Cambodians coming from disadvantaged backgrounds through its Hospitality Training Program, that saw hundreds of young people being able to find stable employment in the hospitality sector.
Over the years, the Shinta Mani Foundation has expanded its work and now supports entire communities as well, providing a wide range of assistance including free medical care, support for local small businesses, and aid for families in need.
During their stay at Shinta Mani Angkor, guests are invited to visit one of the foundation’s active programs, allowing them to witness firsthand the tangible difference this extraordinary luxury boutique hotel makes in the lives of local people.
These visits are deeply impactful for guests, who are able to engage with local communities in a respectful and ethical way, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the ongoing work carried out by the Shinta Mani Foundation.
Shinta Mani Angkor does not simply offer the possibility to “do good,” but rather to “do good properly.” When travelling in countries where vulnerable communities exist, it is unfortunately easy for travelers to fall into the trap of poorly structured NGOs or initiatives that end up feeding the visitor’s ego rather than genuinely improving local conditions while respecting dignity.
The Shinta Mani Foundation stands as a guarantee of ethics, transparency, and respect for local people.
Simply by staying at Shinta Mani Angkor, guests contribute to these projects and leave a positive mark of their presence in Cambodia.
During my stay at Shinta Mani Angkor, I was welcomed by the staff, all Cambodian, who were at once warm, friendly, and highly professional. The butler service is the signature highlight for guests staying in the private pool villas, but all members of staff remain constantly available—whether to offer advice on what to see and do in the city, to organize tours, or simply to talk—creating a genuinely human, real, and personal connection to life in Cambodia.
Speaking of tours, since I have been living in Siem Reap since 2022, during my stay at Shinta Mani Angkor I did not take part in any trip—I simply wanted to fully enjoy the hotel itself. However, this luxury boutique hotel with a deeply humanitarian heart offers a wide range of curated experiences that allow guests to discover the city beyond its most touristy highlights, and to explore the Angkor archaeological complex in comfort, luxury, and awareness.
Those who wish to do so can go even further, exploring floating villages, less-visited temples, or cruising along the Tonle Sap lake.
My experience at Shinta Mani Angkor was a continuous wave of care and indulgence. Nature dominates the space, and relaxing by the beautiful Bayon Pool, surrounded by greenery and accompanied by the sound of birdsong, is an experience without comparison. The property also features another pool, the Angkor Pool, and a series of spaces where every moment becomes a fragment of authenticity and connection.
Slowing down one’s rhythm, finding oneself breathing deeply again, discovering fragments of Cambodia through the words of a staff member rather than through organized activities, and also beginning—or continuing—an inner journey of reconnection with oneself are all things that happen naturally in a luxury boutique hotel like this, where elegance and solidarity move hand in hand.
For a meaningful souvenir—something to keep as a tangible memory of an extraordinary journey through Cambodia, or to bring home for friends and family—you can visit the BENSLEY Outsider Gallery and Boutique, where you will find artworks, clothing, jewelry, and many other items created locally. Every purchase supports local entrepreneurs and communities. It’s also possible to buy original works by Bill Bensley, with all proceeds entirely donated to the Shinta Mani Foundation.
Shinta Mani Angkor, with its quiet yet central location just a short walk from the riverside and within easy reach of some of the city’s most important landmarks, is like a shell. At first glance, it captivates with its beauty and perfection, but it is only when you open it that you discover the pearl inside.
That pearl is the beating heart of this hotel, which not only supports local communities in a deeply integrated and structural way, but also allows guests to experience a journey that transforms them into different versions of themselves.
Travel, in its most meaningful form, should be something that changes you from within. It should be a tool to leave a positive impact on the world, to genuinely connect with people whose lives are very different from your own, only to discover—or remember—that beneath the surface, we are all far more similar than we tend to believe.
Shinta Mani Angkor exists precisely for this purpose. It invites you into a sensory journey, wrapped in nature, luxury, detail, and the soul of Cambodia itself, which gently touches every corner of the property. It allows you to lose yourself in the stories of this extraordinary country, to look beyond the surface, guided by a hotel that is perfectly embedded in its environment and capable of revealing Cambodia with elegance, sensitivity, and genuine joy.
I recommend it to: those seeking meaningful, ethical engagement in Cambodia through a foundation deeply intertwined with the region, marked by transparency and impact.
And to travelers looking for refined luxury, attentive service, and curated experiences.
Final Thoughts
As you’ve probably gathered by reading this far, every stay in these luxury boutique hotels has been nothing short of exceptional for me.
Each property has its own distinct identity yet they all share a common thread: understated luxury, genuinely attentive service, and a curated selection of experiences that range from the iconic to the quietly hidden.
Experiences that don’t just skim the surface of Cambodia, but allow you to enter it more deeply, more consciously. And, most importantly, each of them offers a real, tangible way to support local communities in a meaningful and responsible manner.
These are not hotels designed for the kind of traveler who rushes through destinations ticking boxes off a list. They are not about collecting landmarks or chasing superficial impressions. They are designed for the mindful traveler — someone who wants to experience Cambodia in a deeper, more grounded way. This type of travelers understands that doing so requires choosing properties that are intentional in what they offer. Unlike large international chain hotels, these luxury boutique hotels create experiences that feel personal, carefully shaped around the guest, and often rooted in stories you simply wouldn’t encounter anywhere else.
What also unites all the hotels I’ve mentioned in this article is that they are led by people who have chosen Cambodia not just as a place of work, but as the background to their daily life. Like me, they have made it their home.
This changes everything. It means they understand the country not as outsiders observing it, but as people who are embedded in its daily reality, its culture, and its evolution. Being guided by people like these— through their hotels, their philosophy, and the experiences they curate — means stepping into something that goes far beyond hospitality. It becomes an experience that can stay with you long after you leave, sometimes even subtly shifting how you relate to your everyday life.
For many travelers, a journey to Cambodia is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Angkor, in particular, is something people dream about for years before they finally arrive. When that moment comes, expectations are often already shaped by imagination — temples, history, spirituality, landscapes that feel almost unreal.
And yet, where you choose to stay can completely transform that experience. It can either elevate it or flatten it. Based on my own stays across all the properties featured in this article, I can say with confidence that whichever you choose, you will be in excellent hands. Each one offers a different entry point into the country, but all of them ensure comfort, care, and depth.
After a day of exploring temples, villages, or the wider landscapes of Siem Reap, you return to something that feels grounding: a warm welcome, a genuine smile, the possibility of a massage, calm swimming pools, and natural surroundings that invite you to slow down again.
These luxury boutique hotels are not just places to sleep — they extend the journey itself. Even within your room or villa, while enjoying beautifully prepared meals or walking quietly through tropical gardens, the experience of Cambodia continues.
Because Cambodia is not simply a destination.
It’s a perspective — a place that reshapes how you see things, if you allow it to.
And to experience it in that way, all it takes is choosing a luxury boutique hotel in Siem Reap that understands exactly that.

All of these boutique hotels have such tranquil vibes, a perfect contrast to visiting busy temples during the day.
Thanks for this great post! I have yet never been in Cambodia, but your post certainly gave the wish to go! And so many excellent places where to stay. I also relate what you said about always reading the reviews before I stay somewhere.
